Notes

We have been having some spring-like weather here in South Carolina lately. I went out to a local park hoping to spot my first snake of the year, but was unsuccessful. I did find numerous skinks and turtles though.
I'm pretty sure this is a normal five-lined skink, not the southeastern form. How do I know for sure? Is there a way to tell the two apart without having to look at the scales under the tail?
